New Local Supplier! Hayden Fresh Farm
We are excited to announce that we are now serving eggs from local Hayden Fresh Farm. Colby and Michelle Townsend, owners of Hayden Fresh Farm, provide premium nutrition, a great environment and caring management to all their livestock.
There are so many reasons why supporting local agriculture is important, but we will mention four of the big reasons we try to shop local and support farmers wherever and whenever we can.
It tastes better!
The crops are picked at their peak, and farmstead products like cheeses and are hand-crafted for best flavor. Livestock products are processed in nearby facilities and typically the farmer has direct relationship with processors, overseeing quality - unlike animals processed in large industrial facilities.
It helps build our community.
Locally grown food helps build communities because when you buy direct from the farmer you are building a relationship, while also helping support local farmers who are providing for you as much as they are providing for their own families.
It is better for the environment and more sustainable.
Good farmers ensure that the land is well kept with minimal, if any, usage of chemicals and fertilizers. These practices can sequester carbon, and they also can help ensure proper natural habitats for animals.
It is better for you.
The shorter the time between the farm and your table, the less likely it is that nutrients will be lost from fresh food. Food imported from far away is older and has traveled on trucks or planes, and sat in warehouses before it gets to you.
